Health Care

Our health care system is in a crisis. Health insurance premiums are skyrocketing. Costs are crippling families and businesses and eating away at an ever-larger chunk of our economy.  Tens of thousands of Americans die each year because they can’t afford health insurance.

But politicians in Washington can’t come together to solve this fundamental problem. Senator Burr and the Republicans have put partisan politics ahead of the health of this country.  They’ve abused their powers, using stall tactics and obstructionism to block meaningful reform.

Americans want action, not obstructionism. As North Carolina’s next Senator I’ll be a strong advocate for a health care system that works for all Americans.

I will fight for a plan that:

  • Reduces the Cost of Health Care:  Healthcare costs and premiums must be made affordable for families and businesses.
  • Includes a Strong Public Option: A strong public plan that Americans can choose will promote choice and competition, lowering costs.
  • Closes the Medicare Prescription Drug “Donut-Hole.”  Currently, seniors receive help purchasing medications through Medicare Part D, but too many seniors still receive inadequate assistance.
  • Ends Insurance Company Abuses:  Insurance companies should be banned from denying coverage based on preexisting conditions and dropping insurance coverage when people get sick.
  • Expands Health Insurance Coverage: Ensuring all Americans have access to health insurance coverage will help keep down premiums, as healthy, insured Americans are added to the risk pools. It is also the right thing to do.
  • Promotes Innovation: We should provide incentives for the changes we want to see, like moving to electronic medical records that will empower patients, improve care and reduce health costs.
